Welcome to SHS (letter from our principal)

Welcome to Sitka High School, Home of the Sitka Wolves!

Dr. PJ My Name is PJ Ford Slack and I am delighted to be the instructional leader for Sitka High School (SHS). I look forward to meeting and listening to everyone in the Sitka learning community. Most of all, I have enjoyed getting to know the students at our school.

I come to Sitka with over 30 years of diverse teaching experience in the United States and Pacific Rim.  I learned and worked with language reclamation in New Zealand, Papua, China, and Northern Minnesota. Sitka High School’s student population is made up of many cultures and traditions. We seek to honor each student’s core tradition as well as those in our learning community.  Our staff works daily to honor and assure that all of our students feel safe and respected.

Please come and walk our halls and get to know our students.  If you have a skill, experience, or history that you would like to share, we encourage you to let us know. We believe that high school is a place where the local and world community come together in order to prepare our students for their place as world citizens. The Sitka High School staff believes that all students can complete their high school experience.  We work to partner with all other secondary schools in our area to assure the correct educational fit for our students.

Many years ago I performed and worked at the Sydney Opera House in Australia.  Our arts community is rich at SHS. Sitka High School has a 750 seat Performing Arts Center. Students have the opportunity to perform, but also can learn all the technical aspects of performance production. This center offers Sitka students and the community a big city arts experience in a small town setting.

We live in an area of great beauty. The learning community at Sitka High School is a gem in Southeast.  Do not miss the opportunity to get to know us, our teachers, and the young people who will energize this community for years to come.

Respectfully,

Dr. PJ Ford Slack
